"God showed me something small, no bigger than a hazelnut, lying in the palm of my hand… and it was round as a ball. I looked at it with the eye of my understanding and thought: 'What can this be?' And it was generally answered thus: 'It is all that was made.' It was so small I thought it might disappear, but I was answered... everything has being through the love of God." --Julian of Norwich

Sensual Saturday

hearing:  The cadences of morning prayer, Clint's whispering voice while he showers, the ticking clock over my desk.

seeing:  The disappointing sight of chicken stock going moldy in the crock pot--I forgot to refrigerate it yesterday after letting it cool; my growing body in the mirror as I accessorize my new chiffon, thrift-store dress, playing dress up for my reading in two weeks.

smelling:  The strangely comforting smell of someone else's detergent on the sweater I bought yesterday at the Mennonite Central Committee Thrift Store (now there's a good cause. ;) )

tasting:  Good old red raspberry tea--I like the taste, though some women don't--and for breakfast a few hours ago I had homemade granola.

feeling:  The warmth of a good sweater, the draft from our front door, the smoothness of the keys on my computer--there is more writing to be done today.

And a few images for your senses:

Baby and Me - 27 weeks, 3 days

  1. Dearest Laura, LOVE your Sensual Saturday, and the MCC shout-out, and the poster for your reading. Wish I could fly across the country to be there ...

  2. I wish you could too! But I know that there are limits to these things.
